making the most of your trip to Assisi

making the most of your trip to Assisi

Assisi is one of the most picturesque little towns I have visited. To me, there is something truly magical about Assisi! Whether it be the abundance of nuns and monks walking through the streets, the beautiful rolling hills, or the vast amount of pastry shops, Assisi is amazing. I was surprised to find out that there are actually many different things to do while visiting Assisi. Though it is a small town, it is packed with different sites to visit. Although I'm sure I may be missing out on some sites (because I am no expert) here is my guide to making the most of your visit to Assisi.

-visit the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi: A trip to this basilica will simply leave you speechless. If you are a sucker for frescos like me, then you are in for a very big treat.

-visit the many other beautiful churches such as the Basilica di Santa Chiara San Damiano and Duomo di San Rufino. This tiny town is filled to the brim with outstanding churches, monasteries, and beautiful places.

-visit Eremo della Carceri: If you are into hiking, there is a good trek up to this monastery. The trek itself is gorgeous and the monastery at the end is beyond belief.

-visit the Rocca Maggiore: This castle towers over Assisi and provides breathtaking views of the countryside below. A visit to this spot is perfect for an afternoon picnic, stroll, and of course the perfect photo.

-stay at La Casa di Annalisa--the cutest little airbnb with the perfect host mother. A stay with Annalisa is an experience in and of itself. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/8061370

-eat at Ristorante Pizzeria il Menestrello for incredible pizza.  Not only is their pizza great but their interior is awesome. http://www.ristorantepizzeriailmenestrello.it

-treat yourself with a pastry ever. The best pastry I had during my entire time abroad was in Assisi. I love pastries so that is a big deal for me to say. There are an abundance of pastry shops in and around Assisi so be sure to venture into all of them before you choose that special sweet!

-take a walk down through the fields, around the countryside, and into the hills. Slow down, relax, and enjoy your time in this beautiful town!
